Welch Artist Statement

In my photography I want to see Nature and Industry collide. I like to see the remnants of industry being taken back by nature. I especially want to see the way light changes the two and brings them together.

In order to collect my images, I go to remote Industrial locations and wait for conditions to be just right. If I have to climb a fence or a bridge to get the shot, I will. I also want to detail the mechanics of the objects that make up industry and document their decay.

I received my first camera as a small child after years of borrowing from my mother and begging for my own. Everywhere I went I took pictures of small plants growing out of the sides of buildings, broke down slides and swings in public parks and any wildlife I came across.  I grew up in Modesto, California a five minute drive from orchards and ranches. I currently live in West Oakland with my dog, Lucy and I teach Art at a high school in Concord, California.
